Donating Clothes in Budapest

Every year me and my family donate clothes to provide service to the poor people in Budapest.

It is very sad that many people do not have the money to afford neither a home nor proper clother and sometimes food. We cannot donate houses so we donated clothes instead like every year. We always give our used clothes to the priest of the Catholic church in the NeuPest quarter of Budapest Because he is our friend and together we help the poor. By donating clothes I have considered the ethical implications of my actions and engaged in issues of global importance.

I hope that one day people will not suffer and everyone will ahve a place to live and food to eat.

Art Duty

In the beginning of the year I have volunteered for doing the clean up and help around the art room, so I finally got into it. I am providing service to both the art students and the art teacher. Furthermore I work with two other classmates and we usually work collaboratively and also I have never cleaned an art room before so I am undertaking new challenges and developing the skills of cleaning up and helping with paperwork.

I feel much better that I can help the art teacher because when I used to have art the room was always messy and the art materials were not prepared or not properly so it always took a long time to do that and now I provide service to the students so that they can enjoy art without preparing the materials. I am doing it for the whole year so I am showing persevearence and commitment in my actions.

International Day Service

On International Day we all had to do our duties which was to Plan and initiate activities and provide service to the teachers by entertaining the students with these fun activities.

Our activity was the International Food Quiz which was a huge success in all year groups because it was a slideshow showing food from all countries (nameless) and they had to guess which country made it first. During the activities we worked collaboratively and developed new skills such as entertainment. We also had an International Buffet which was a huge buffet with lots and lots of food and we provided a service by helping to serve it. Which I was not the best at so again I found out one of my weaknesses.

After the buffet we had an International concert which was a great success and after which I was helping to clear the hall by taking chairs back to classrooms and by helping others with the musical instruments.

The International Day was a great fun. It is a pity that we only have it once a year.

Making Hungarian Gulash

For International Day I volunteered to make one of the Hungarian Cuisine specialities, the Gulash. I love it, it is a very delicious dish. Apart from that it looks nice, it has beef, potatoes, paprika and some hungarian pasta in it. Though it sounds hard, it is not that hard to make it.

So, me and my mother (for assistance) made the gulash. It is not that hard to make, it has a few basic steps. Firstly we prepared the ingredients: cut the potato and prepare the meat. Me and my mother worked collaboratively and prepared the ingredients for cooking. This is the funnest part because you have to know when to take the dish off the fire. The right way is to see the colour, and of course the smell. While I was cooking I developed new skills and learned one of my strengths, which is that I am not a bad cook. By cooking I was very creative.

After the house was filled with the smell of gulash, we took the dish off and started to package it in for tomorrow but of course first we tasted it (ate like half of it). It was very good and we were very proud of our dish. (The next day all of the Gulash disappeared in less than 20 minutes).

Weightlifting

I have been doing weightlifting since the beginning of the year and I am willing and able to continue it through the year. I do it every week ate least 2 times if I am very busy with homework.By doing weightlifting I am showing persevearence and commitment to my actions because weightlifting is not easy and it can be very tiring. By doing weightlifting I also add to the action part of my CAS plan. By this I also develop new skill such as fitness which is very important in maintaining good health. Furthermore I become aware of what I am capable of and what my limitations are.

Football Match

School 3 versus School 5

On Thursday the players of School five came to us to play a friendly match of football. The event was held in our gym at lunchtime. So the night before I took my goalkeeper gloves and sportsuit and was ready for the match.

At lunchtime we finally faced them. The match was really esciting in the beginning but after a while we kept on scoring goals and I was able to save many as well. We worked collaboratively with the team on the field and it was like we read each others thoughts. But still it was wonderful and exciting and the best was that we won 22-4 so that meant that we were great.

But we were not great because we shot hard or tackled well, it was because of the teamwork and that was the sole purpose of us winning the match. The other team were not as organised as we were so they could not keep up.

I hope that we will be this successful the whole year.

Parents Evening

On Tuesday we had a parents evening. As an Ib student I volunteered to serve cofee and tea as well as to translate from Russian to English and vice versa. I was quite excited as iI have hnever translated in my life before so I undertook new challenges.

The Parents evening started at 4pm and I worked there for two hours until 6pm. I was mostly translating but when i got the chance I helped my mother or served coffee and tea to the parents. As I was translating I learned that I am not that bad at it so I found out one of my strengths.

I felt really good about volunteering to this activity as it was very helpful to me because I became a communicator and I was open-minded which are the learner profile values. During the event I learned some peaoples cultures and their perspectives sometimes as I translated. Furthermore as we served the tea and coffee to the parents with my friends we worked collaboratively as one of us prepared the cup and the second prepared the tea or coffee and the last poured the hot water in.

As the Program finished, I went home and thought about what I had achieved today. I was proud of myself and proud of providing a service to people as well as learning a new and essential skill of translating.

Decorating the House Wall

Today we finished decorating the house wall. It was our task to decorate it as house leaders because we gain precious points for our team if it looks nice. First we started planning out how the board is going to look and during that we worked collaboratively with each other. I am the house captain so I was in charge of giving out tasks and planning and initiating activities.

When we were finished with the planning, the next day we decided to decorate the housewall as we planned it out. We took all the materials needed from the art department and worked together to create a wonderful housewall which amazed all of the students in our house as well as teachers. We were very creative because we put many photos and grafitti on the board which looked very nice.

As this board was put up to provide info and details of the house and the current events I hopethat the students in our house find it interesting and helpful as that is why we created it.
