Introduction of IB to Years 10-11

This Tuesday me and my house group had a presentation to year 10 and 11. We had to present the ideas of the Learner Profile and the qualities which should be achieved. We started putting the presentation together last week and spent almost a week doing it, but it was fun. We undertook new challenges as we did the project. For better explaination we made a powerpoint presentation for the presentation. There are 10 learner qualities and each of us learned two, I learned Open-minded, and Reflective. After we prepared all the work, all that was left was to present it to the key stage 4 students. I was really excited and while I was presenting I developed new skills, such as speaking to an audience. I also Worked collaboratively with others during and before the presentation and also before the presentation I had planned and initiated activities as I am the house captain so I planned the whole presentation with the help of my deputy. Furthermore on that day I increased my awareness of my own strengths and weaknesses as I found out that I am not bad in presenting ideas to the audience.

Presenting ideas to the audience is great however it is also exciting. I hope next time I can present my own ideas to the public.

Football Club

This year I have decided to take part in the football clubs, both the championship and the friday afternoon club. I have played football in school last year as well so I decided to keep on doing it. It is so much fun and the competition keeps you excited the whole year. Since the start of the year we had 3 matches with my team and I am going to keep on doing both clubs until the end of the school year. By this I am showing perseverance and commitment in my activities. Furthermore I am working collaboratively with others as we are all part of the team and if we want to win the championship, we have to work together. With every match I increase my awareness of my strengths and weaknesses and my areas for growth. After every match I try to improve my weaknesses. As I am running the Football club on Fridays I am also planning and initiating activities so that other students can play and enjoy football.

I think that playing football is very useful in developing communicative and team working skills as players have to communicate but in short period of time, so we have to understand each other better. In conclusion I would like to say that it is not an everyday chance to play football with many people and fair referees so I will take the chance and Play!

Autumn Sport Activities Day

Last Thursday we had a Sportsday in school. It was a magnificent day. The weather was okay which was very lucky this time of year in Moscow as it usually rains. We came to school as usual at 8.30 however we had to wear sport suit because we took part in many sport challenges. We were split into our house groups and started taking on these challenges.

First came dodgeball, which was very fun and I really enjoyed it as I found out one of my strengths as being a good thrower and a weakness as being a defender (we played a special dodgeball game were we had to defend a hit-zone, which if the enemy hit we lost). After that we took part in team sport activities where I worked collaboratively with others. We played football, basketball and volleyball. I found out that volleyball is not my strength. In contrast, I am good at football and basketball. Later me and my house which I am the leader of(, as I wanted to take part in more activities so I volunteered to be the president), we tried out a new type of game which involved running and taking the other ball of the other team. It was fun and I developed new skills and also undertaken new challenges while learning and playing this new team sport. After the sportsday was over I still had the football championship which is every Thursday. I took part in it and played as a goalkeeper. I play every Thursday and Friday.

We were really good on that day and scored many points and now we are the first on the table. Sportsday was a great fitness training and me and everyone enjoyed it, I hope that we have more of it this year!

First Day of School, Start of IB

I was very excited to return to school, to see my friends and to find out what my scores were for
the IGCSEs. However something has changed compared to last year, now I have stepped up a
level and started the IB programme. As my first task as an IB student we had to do many creative
and teambuilding exercises with my friends in group so that we get to know the newcomers and
each other even better. There is always space for improvement. I really enjoyed these creative
but also challenging tasks of building the tallest building from paper or creating a shell for an egg
to survive a 10 feet high drop and the others.

When we all tried out all activities we moved on and got
introduced to our timetables and how the IB works. Soon after that we had an assignment
to build a kite. In a group of three we started making our kite. It was challenging but after
some planning and discussion with my friends we finally constructed it. Then came the moment
we were all waiting for. We had to fly it. In our team I was the runner, who ran with the kite
so that it could get enough speed to lift off. Our kite after many desperate tries got into the
sky and stayed there for quite a long time.

As we returned to school me and my partners discussed  how
much fun it was to take part in these activities and hope that when we organise such events, people
will feel the same way like we did.

In these activities I have achieved many of the learning outcomes such as:
  • I have increased my awareness of my strengths and weaknesses as I found out I was quite good at planning the kite.
  • I undertook new challenges as I was planning, building and flying the kite.
  • I worked collaboratively with others through the whole activity.
  • I developed new skills such as: building a kite and use body language for explaining words.
