I was very excited to return to school, to see my friends and to find out what my scores were for
the IGCSEs. However something has changed compared to last year, now I have stepped up a
level and started the IB programme. As my first task as an IB student we had to do many creative
and teambuilding exercises with my friends in group so that we get to know the newcomers and
each other even better. There is always space for improvement. I really enjoyed these creative
but also challenging tasks of building the tallest building from paper or creating a shell for an egg
to survive a 10 feet high drop and the others.
When we all tried out all activities we moved on and got
introduced to our timetables and how the IB works. Soon after that we had an assignment
to build a kite. In a group of three we started making our kite. It was challenging but after
some planning and discussion with my friends we finally constructed it. Then came the moment
we were all waiting for. We had to fly it. In our team I was the runner, who ran with the kite
so that it could get enough speed to lift off. Our kite after many desperate tries got into the
sky and stayed there for quite a long time.
As we returned to school me and my partners discussed how
much fun it was to take part in these activities and hope that when we organise such events, people
will feel the same way like we did.
In these activities I have achieved many of the learning outcomes such as:
- I have increased my awareness of my strengths and weaknesses as I found out I was quite good at planning the kite.
- I undertook new challenges as I was planning, building and flying the kite.
- I worked collaboratively with others through the whole activity.
- I developed new skills such as: building a kite and use body language for explaining words.
